Michigan Area Haiti Task Force
In 1996 an agreement of Covenant Partnership was adopted by both the Detroit and West Michigan Annual Conferences. The covenant states that cooperative projects and programs in which the Michigan Area conferences enter will be those initiated by the Haiti District Eglise Methodiste d’Haiti) of the Methodist Churches in the Caribbean and Americas ( MCCA) and in accord with the General Board of Global Ministries of both Michigan Area conferences and the United Methodist on Relief (UMCOR).
The Michigan Area for over the past fourteen years has worked in various projects to assist the Haitian Methodist Church in their outreach ministries to serve and witness to the people of Haiti. Basically, the MAHTF has endeavored to support the following ministries of the Haitian Methodist Church:
1. Support the Haiti School Hot Lunch Program
2. Support the “Water Ministry” of the Bio-Sand Water Filter Program
3. Help orientate and coordinate VIM teams going to Haiti from the Michigan Area
4. To work with other UM conferences in cooperate efforts to fulfill projects requested and initiated by the Methodist Church in Haiti.
The Michigan Area Haiti Task Force encourages and invites everyone in both conferences to attend the meetings of the Task Force designed to inform and share cooperative ways in assisting the Haitian Methodist Church. The Michigan Area Haiti Task Force deeply appreciates the generous contributions and support, from across the state of Michigan that has brought about a mutual blessing for everyone.
